On January 24, METAL ALLEGIANCE members David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, THE WINERY DOGS, SONS OF APOLLO) and Mark Menghi, along with Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA) and Mark Osegueda (DEATH ANGEL), took part in a clinic and question-and-answer session at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California. In the five-minute clip below, which was filmed during the question-and-answer portion of the event, Ellefson recounts how MEGADETH was formed 35 years ago. Ellefson was in MEGADETH from the band's inception in 1983 to 2002, when the group briefly broke up because guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine suffered severe nerve damage that left him unable to play. After Mustaine reformed MEGADETH with an all-new lineup in 2004, Ellefson sued his former bandmate for $18.5 million, alleging that Mustaine still owed him substantial merchandise and publishing royalties. In January 2005, the case was dismissed in court, and five years later, Ellefson rejoined MEGADETH. In a January 2016 interview with the Cape Girardeau, Missouri radio station Real Rock 99.3, Mustaine implied that Ellefson was not a founding member of the band because, he said, "MEGADETH was already in its formative phase long before I even knew David Ellefson." The bassist later said that he was "technically" a founding member of MEGADETH because he was "in the room" the day MEGADETH decided to change its name from the previous working moniker of FALLEN ANGEL at the suggestion of the band's then-guitarist Greg Handevidt. In addition to Mustaine and Ellefson, MEGADETH's current lineup includes former SOILWORK drummer Dirk Verbeuren and Brazilian guitarist Kiko Loureiro, who was previously best known for his work with ANGRA. MEGADETH's latest album, "Dystopia", was released in January 2016. Initially conceived as a covers band, METAL ALLEGIANCE, which features a rotating cast of high-profile musicians, played a string of well-received shows before inking a deal with Nuclear Blast and heading into the studio to record an album.

New LIFE OF AGONY Drummer VERONICA BELLINO Spotlighted By SOULTONE Cymbals (Video)

Friday, February 16, 2018 - 21:00

Soultone Cymbals has uploaded a four-minute video featuring LIFE OF AGONY's new drummer, Veronica Bellino. Bellino joined the band last month as the replacement for Sal Abruscato, who "amicably" left LIFE OF AGONY in December. Veronica is a New York native who has been on the rise as one of the industry's hottest young drummer/songwriters. Veronica has co-written with the legendary DMC, found a national spotlight in The Game's "Red Nation" video, worked with LL Cool J as a member of his signed band 13, conquered dozens of stages with drum icon Carmine Appice's SLAMM group, and worked with Living Legend Award recipient Jeff Beck. Bellino said about her addition to LIFE OF AGONY: "I'm really excited to play with this band. I've been friends with the guitar player for a couple of years and he called me about this opportunity, so, naturally, I said yes. And our first shows start in April, so I'm really excited." LIFE OF AGONY's latest album, "A Place Where There's No More Pain", was issued in April 2017 via Napalm. LIFE OF AGONY's fifth studio LP marked the band's first release since singer Mina Caputo (formerly known as Keith Caputo) came out as transgender in 2011. Bellino will make her live debut with LIFE OF AGONY when the band plays two intimate hometown shows on Wednesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 19 at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, New York. Each night's set will be unique, with the group diving deep into its catalog to perform never-before-played tracks along with some of its classics. "I am extremely excited and grateful to play these first two shows in the birthplace of LIFE OF AGONY," said Bellino. "Being a New York native myself, I can't wait to share this with friends, family and fans!"

Fan-filmed video footage of ROBERT PLANT & THE SENSATION SPACE SHIFTERS' February 14 performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City can be seen below. According to The Pulse Of Radio, Plant and the band kicked off the tour last Friday night (February 9) in Raleigh, North Carolina and played a set tapping into Plant's latest album, "Carry Fire", and 2014's "Lullaby And.. The Ceaseless Roar", along with several folk and bluegrass standards, as well as his 1998 collaboration with Jimmy Page, "Please Read The Letter", which also found a home on his Grammy Award-winning "Raising Sand" album with Alison Krauss. Highlights for fans were the several tips of the hat to his LED ZEPPELIN years with performances of "That's The Way", "Gallows Pole", "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You", "Misty Mountain Hop" and the show-closing "Whole Lotta Love". Plant's '80s career was represented by just one track, the concert's second-to-last song, "In The Mood". Despite promoters essentially offering LED ZEPPELIN a blank check for a series of concerts, 10 years after the band's one-off reunion and the incredible success of his collaboration with Krauss, Plant remains committed to his current musical direction. "I hate to say it, but it felt young," he said. "It felt like I didn't know what was going to happen next, and it didn't really matter — and that was the great thing. I know the songs that I like and the songs that I always attach myself to have been of a certain genre, if they're not self-penned. And I was in very good company with people who had a very familiar lean in the same direction."

SKINDRED Releases 'Machine' Music Video

Friday, February 16, 2018 - 20:00

Welsh "ragga metal" band SKINDRED has released a music video for its new single, "Machine". The clip features actor and stuntman Neil Chapelhow, best known for his work in the films "Wonder Woman" and "Fantastic Beasts". The band states: "When we were told we were doing a video with the stunt team that's be behind the Marvel films, James Bond and the Bourne films, we knew we were in for a good time on the shoot. Throw in Gary from REEF and one of our fave bars in London (Big Red) and you have the ingredients for a really fun video. The idea is don't judge a book by its cover. SKINDRED is inclusive. Not exclusive. So when someone in a rock bar is being teased by some 'rockers' for not being the same as them, he hits back! In a big way!" "Machine" features vocals by REEF frontman Gary Stringer and guitar by Phil Campbell of MOTÖRHEAD. The track was previously used as both the intro and outro theme to AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson's TV show "Cars That Rock". "Machine" is taken from SKINDRED's upcoming album, "Big Tings", which will be released on April 27 via Napalm Records. A single, Behind-the-scenes studio footage from the "Big Tings" recording sessions at Peter Gabriel's Real World studio in the village of Box, Wiltshire, England, can be seen below. SKINDRED, along with producer James Loughrey and engineer Lee Slater, could not be more excited about what will be the band's seventh studio album. Says SKINDRED guitarist Mikey Demus: "The name hopefully says it all. You can expect some seriously 'Big Tings' from SKINDRED on our next record. We've thrown away the rulebook and pushed ourselves harder than ever to create the biggest, baddest, and most banging songs we could muster. We can't wait to start unleashing this new stuff on the world, so prepare yourselves for some 'Big Tings'!" Roaring and pounding, the follow-up to 2015's "Volume" is a magnificent beast churning out heavy, distortion-laden riff punches melting into vocalist Benji Webbe's frenzied rapping. Explosive metal and punk material rubs shoulders with smooth melodies — and, of course, SKINDRED wouldn't leave us on the dancefloor without a hefty helping of their trademark Godzilla-esquely huge choruses. Big songs, big sound, big tings! SKINDRED will embark on a full U.K. tour in April with special guests CKY.

MARILYN MANSON Fans Demand Refund For 'Disgraceful' Long Island Concert

Friday, February 16, 2018 - 19:00

Marilyn Manson performed a lackluster and abbreviated set last night (Thursday, February 15) at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, causing many fans to lash out at the singer on social media demanding a refund. Last night's concert was a make-up date for a show that was originally supposed to happen last October but which ended up getting postponed after Manson broke his right leg in two places. According to Newsday, Manson delivered had his back to the crowd for most of the set and seemingly confused his own band by his actions as several songs were started and stopped. "He was too messed up and couldn't perform," one concertgoer told Newsday. "It was disappointing." "You can't even call this a show," another fan said. "I've been a fan since I was five years old. I grew up listening to him, but he's dead to me at this point." A number of people who went to the concert took to social media to express their displeasure and to ask for their money back. "@Ticketmaster I want a refund for the 2 tickets I bought to the @marilynmanson concert tonight @TheParamountNY," one fan tweeted. "$180+ special t on 2 tickets to a rescheduled show & we get him walking off stage midshow? This is unacceptable" Another person wrote: "Marilyn Manson put on the WORST show I have ever seen. Played 5 songs, bitched about people not saying “I Love You” and walked off #MarilynManson #worstconcert #refund" Marilyn is on the road supporting his latest album, "Heaven Upside Down", which was released in October. Manson's injury to his lower leg from a freak accident on stage during a concert last fall in New York City resulted in the postponement of nine tour dates.

Listen To New THREE DAYS GRACE Song 'I Am An Outsider'

Friday, February 16, 2018 - 19:00

THREE DAYS GRACE, the internationally acclaimed and multi-platinum certified Canadian band with over a billion streams on Spotify, will release its new album, "Outsider", on March 9 via RCA. "Outsider" is the sixth full-length album from the band, and is the group's first since 2015's "Human". "Outsider" track listing: 01. Right Left Wrong 02. The Mountain 03. I Am An Outsider 04. Infra-Red 05. Nothing To Lose But You 06. Me Against You 07. Love Me Or Leave Me 08. Strange Days 09. Villain I'm Not 10. Chasing The First Time 11. The New Real 12. The Abyss The song "I Am An Outsider" can be streamed below. "We've always written about being the odd person out and being comfortable with that," drummer Neil Sanderson told Billboard. "I Am An Outsider" is "about deciding that you don't want to be exposed to so many influences in your life and to people who have a negative influence on you," he said. "You want to be able to take a great big step backwards and view all the chaos and absurdity from a distance — 'I don't want to believe the same way, the same things you to just to sort of conform to anything. I want to have my own set of thoughts and my own set of feelings.' We've always kind of felt like that, I think." "To me, 'Outsider' represents the journey to find your place," said bass player Brad Walst. "The world feels crazy at times. We try to get away from that every once in a while. We do our own thing, and we're comfortable doing it. We have always looked forward — and not backwards. That's an ongoing theme." Forging a new path forward is exactly what the musicians did in the fall of 2016. Instead of congregating in a downtown Toronto rehearsal space, the band which consists of Matt Walst (lead vocals), Barry Stock (lead guitar), Brad Walst (bass) and Neil Sanderson (drums, percussion, keyboards, programming), initially wrote in a converted garage behind Brad's house located two hours from the city. "This is all about taking a step back from life's madness without destroying yourself, cutting everyone off, or going crazy," said Neil. "You get a break and find the space to create." Eventually, the band retreated to Neil's 90-acre farm to further hone ideas, and often sat around bonfires with acoustic guitars, tapping into the wild spirit surrounding them. As the songs took shape, the band headed to the Ontario's remote Jukasa Studios, and called upon longtime friends and collaborators including producers Gavin Brown and Howard Benso, engineer Mike Plotnikoff and Chris Lord-Alge on mixing duties, for an album that speaks directly to their army of fans from around the globe. "That production team hasn't happened since 'One-X'," added Neil. "We were lucky to get this group together. It made sense because we were in a similar headspace." As much as it upholds tradition, "Outsider" represents progression for THREE DAYS GRACE. Marking his second offering as part of the band, Matt showed "a new level of confidence and brought a ton of ideas," according to his brother Brad. Meanwhile, Neil expanded the signature electronic palette, integrating analog synths and standout programming with the help of Rhys Fulber (FEAR FACTORY, FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY). He casually nodded to electronic influences as diverse as NINE INCH NAILS, WHITE ZOMBIE, BRING ME THE HORIZON, Lana Del Rey, and a surprising cult classic, the movie "Lost Boys". First single "The Mountain" evinces that evolution. Those cinematic sonic flourishes augment arena-ready riffs before summiting towards a seismic refrain, "I'm still surviving, keep climbing, keep climbing the mountain." Given this undeniable unpredictability, "Outsider" feels right at home alongside a catalog of fan favorites from THREE DAYS GRACE. Since 2003, the band has staked a spot amongst the hard rock vanguard, breaking records, toppling charts, moving millions of units worldwide, and making history by holding the all-time record for "most #1 singles at Active Rock Radio ever" with 13. In 2015, "Human" marked the group's second straight #1 slot on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart as well as their fourth consecutive debut in Top 20 of the Top 200. It spawned two #1 singles "Painkiller" and "I Am Machine", signaling the band's 13th overall and fifth consecutive number ones on the Active Rock Radio chart. Moreover, the four-piece consistently averaged a staggering 3.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify — remaining one of the most listened to rock bands in the world.

MYLES KENNEDY Releases Lyric Video For 'Devil On The Wall' Song From 'Year Of The Tiger' Album

Friday, February 16, 2018 - 19:00

Myles Kennedy has released the lyric video for the song "Devil On The Wall", taken from his debut solo album, "Year Of The Tiger". Due on March 9 via Napalm Records, the effort was helmed by ALTER BRIDGE's longtime producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette. The acclaimed singer/songwriter known for his work with ALTER BRIDGE as well as SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS recently completed the highly anticipated record, which is available for pre-order in various bundle configurations at this location. On "Year Of The Tiger", Kennedy embarks on his first venture as a solo artist by embracing musical elements and influences he hasn't explored until this point in his career. His appreciation for the blues and acoustic based music can be heard throughout the 12-song concept record inspired by the loss of his father when he was a child. The multi-instrumentalist played lap steel, mandolin, banjo and bass in addition to the guitar on the record. This shift in instrumentation helped create a new sonic canvas that some might consider a departure from the high gain wall of sound Kennedy has been associated with. Examples of this can be heard throughout the record, from the hypnotic drone of the title track, to the intricate finger style approach of "Haunted By Design" and "Ghost Of Shangri La". "Year Of The Tiger" is a personal story framed in a new context from an artist willing to take chances. It's also a story that took decades to summon up the courage to tell. "Year Of The Tiger" track listing: 01. Year Of The Tiger 02. The Great Beyond 03. Blind Faith 04. Devil On The Wall 05. Ghost of Shangri La 06. Turning Stones 07. Haunted By Design 08. Mother 09. Nothing But A Name 10. Love Can Only Heal 11. Songbird 12. One Fine Day "Year Of The Tiger" was described by Kennedy in a recent interview with Metal Wani as "probably the closest thing to a full-on concept record that I've ever written. I mean, the story is congruent throughout the entire... It basically tells a story from start to finish, and it documents when my father passed away when I was a kid and basically what happened after that with my mom, my brother and I — it tells that story," he said. "So it's a full-on concept from start to finish."

MARCO MENDOZA: Lyric Video For 'Sweetest Emotions'

Friday, February 16, 2018 - 18:00

Marco Mendoza will release his long-awaited new solo album, "Viva La Rock", on March 2 via Mighty Music. The disc was recorded in Copenhagen with the multi-talented producer and guitar player Søren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Mike Tramp) at the helm. The Søren/Mendoza collaboration proved to be the right way forward with the chemistry exploding in the studio, writing and producing some of the finest new rock songs that are screaming out to be heard through a radio somewhere in the world. The official lyric video for the song "Sweetest Emotions" can be seen below. The new disc will be the first solo album in eight years from Mendoza, whose last effort, "Casa Mendoza", came out in 2010 via Mascot Records. "Viva La Rock" is big, bad and beautiful. It reflects the larger-than-life personality of Mendoza, both on and off stage. The Los Angeles native, who has a proud Spanish/Mexican heritage, is usually found holding down the bass rock foundation with artists like Neal Schon (JOURNEY), WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY, Ted Nugent and can currently be found with new classic rock champions THE DEAD DAISIES. With a hard-working ethic that sees him constantly out on the road either with THE DEAD DAISIES or as a solo artist, he was delighted when Mighty Music offered him the opportunity to release an album that could propel his own brand of music to a wider public. "I am really excited about the release of this album," says Marco. "It will be my first collection of new songs in seven years! I have been extremely busy with THE DEAD DAISIES since 2013 so when the opportunity to get some new music together came along, I jumped at it! I hope you guys have as much fun listening to it as I did recording it!" With the title track, "Viva La Rock", thrusting out of the speakers as a worthy invitation to come and listen, Marco then takes you on a roller coaster of musical emotions and sounds with a number of potential hit singles like "Rocketman", "Sue Is On The Run" and the ballad "Leah". With a cauldron full of influences, including blues, funk and R&B, there is something for everyone that loves great music, and for good measure there a little of his past thrown in with a visit to "Chinatown" from THIN LIZZY, complete with a guest appearance by GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus and former WHITE LION singer Mike Tramp on additional vocals, then the Ted Nugent cover "Hey Baby". "Viva La Rock" will be released on limited color LP, CD and digital. Mendoza will support "Viva La Rock" with a European tour. Photo by BleuCottonPhotography.com
