GWAR Frontman Interviewed On 'The Classic Metal Show' (Audio)
GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus was interviewed on the latest edition of "The Classic Metal Show", which is heard live on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. EST at TheClassicMetalShow.com. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below. GWAR's new album, "Battle Maximus" — the band's first full-length studio effort since the loss of their longtime guitar player Flattus Maximus — is set to hit the streets on September 17 on Metal Blade Records. "This album is both a tribute to Flattus and a telling of the next chapter in the story of GWAR," said Oderus Urungus. "The combo of the brand new album and show should satisfy even the most hardcore Flattus devotee with the fact that GWAR's slay-skills are as supreme as ever, and the band stands poised to embark on our most earth-shattering world tour yet. We have mourned, we have honored, and now it's time to fucking DEVASTATE in the name of Flattus and the supreme entity that is GWAR." Oderus continued: "This is our first record in our brand-new Slave Pit Studios, which Flattus had a lead role in designing, but without him we had no one left to twiddle the buttons, much less play the blazing metal leads and provide the musical direction that rescued GWAR from the depths of clown-band obscurity. I mean, Balsac is no slouch, but Flattus' departure left a huge hole in our band. We had no choice. We had to blow the Horn of Hate..." The follow-up to 2011's critically acclaimed "Bloody Pit Of Horror", "Battle Maximus" features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR's latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet... the insidious "Mr. Perfect", who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR — the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the "perfect" human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers. "Battle Maximus" track listing: 01. Intro 02. Madness At The Core Of Time 03. Bloodbath 04. Nothing Left Alive 05. They Swallowed The Sun 06. Torture 07. Raped At Birth 08. I, Bonesnapper 09. METAL CHURCH: 'Generation Nothing' Title Track Available For Streaming
The reunited METAL CHURCH — Ronny Munroe on vocals, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Rick Van Zandt on guitars, Steve Unger on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums — will release tenth studio album, "Generation Nothing", on October 22 via Kurdt's label Body Of Work Recordings in conjunction with Rat Pak Records. "Generation Nothing" track listing: 01. Bullet Proof 02. Dead City 03. Generation Nothing 04. Noises In The Wall 05. Jump The Gun 06. Suiciety 07. Scream 08. Hits Keep Comin' 09. Close To The Bone 10. The Media Horse The "Generation Nothing" title track can now be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. According to Vanderhoof, "Generation Nothing" — which was recorded at Kurdt's English Channel studio in Washingtion — marks a "return to [METAL CHURCH's] classic metal sound. It has elements of the first album and 'The Dark', but still embraces the new sound of the band without chasing the past." Munroe said in a recent interview with Metal Assault that the new METAL CHURCH effort would contain material that is "very reminiscent of the old days with some stuff that's very 'now.'" He added: "There's a bit of… I'm not going to say 'prog' because it's not, but there's a couple of elements in there that are a little bit progressive. For the most part, out of this batch of songs, they really sound more reminiscent of the early days than anything we've done before with this lineup. This excites me very much, and I think the fans are really going to dig it." Regarding the circumstances that led to METAL CHURCH's breakup in 2009, Ronny said: "Well, in a nutshell, without going into a huge and long story here, it was certain aspects of things that had continued to happen to the band throughout its career. Not having the proper management and the proper people in place that were handling us. You know, we ended up taking some shows we shouldn't have taken and that just led to where Kurdt was really getting fed up and then we all kind of got that way. Basically, we figured before we end up disbanding because of other reasons such as maybe starting to fight with one another or whatnot, we decided to go ahead and end it then. We all ended up friends and we wanted to keep it that way. So I won't go into specifics, but we all know what the music industry is like now compared to what it was like back then. We just didn't have the right people in our camp." Asked what the band is going to do differently this time around to avoid falling into the same trap, Ronny said: "This time around we're going to release this next record on Kurdt's label. Basically, Kurdt and the band and whatnot are taking a lot more control of the situation. Yes, maybe the downloading thing is even worse than 2009, but also on the other hand, if you know what you're doing and you use the Internet correctly, you can actually have success. Kurdt's been doing that with his prog band PRESTO BALLET and whatnot. In this day and age, the time is right to go and try something on your own. If it doesn't work, you can always end up going out and searching for a label or something. We're going to take a shot at it and see what happens and I think we're probably going to have some decent success."

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS: 'Black Heart' Lyric Video Released
The new version of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS featuring LINKIN PARK's Chester Bennington will release an EP, "High Rise", on October 8 via 13Star Records. The effort will contain five new tracks: 01. Out Of Time 02. Black Heart 03. Same On The Inside 04. Cry Cry 05. Tomorrow The official lyric video for the song "Black Heart" can now be seen below. "Out Of Time" reached the No. 1 position on both the Mediabase Active Rock and Mainstream Rock chart last month. "In terms of style, when the DeLeo brothers [Dean and bassist Robert] get in the studio and start writing, they have a very unique way of putting chords together and structures and the type of chord progressions they put together," Bennington told Fuse News of the writing process in the new STP. "So, in that sense, it's gonna be undeniably the sound of STP — I mean, they're the heart and soul of the band. Naturally, I'm not [former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer] Scott [Weiland], so I'm not gonna think of the same melodies, I'm not gonna think of the same lyrical content and such, so in that sense, naturally, there's gonna be a difference in terms of how I interpret what the band puts together musically. I think that's one of the reasons why we're so eager to get the [new STONE TEMPLE PILOTS] EP out, because we want people to hear the new direction and feel the vibe of the new music. Because there's definitely a vibe in that EP that is fresh and it's new but it still feels very STP." He added: "When we started writing, the ideas came so fast; every single day, it semed like there was four or five things that we were all bringing in and contributing in terms of new songs. We could have easily spent three more months on this thing and had a full-length record out. There's enough material there for us to do that and start getting into the next one. So in terms of the amount of creativity that's been going on, it's very healthy." STP fired Scott Weiland in February after reuniting with him in 2010 for a series of tours and one self-titled album. The band had previously been on hiatus since 2002, primarily due to the singer's struggles with drugs and alcohol. The group sued Weiland in May, accusing him of using the band's name to advance his solo career, while claiming that his poor performances, late arrivals, and addiction struggles harmed the band's career. Weiland has countersued, claiming that the band cannot use the STONE TEMPLE PILOTS name without him.
AC/DC Singer On STING's 'The Last Ship; Audio Snippet Available
AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson makes a guest appearance on "The Last Ship", a soundtrack primarily featuring Sting for a Broadway production of the same name. Johnson can be heard on the song "Sky Hooks and Tartan Paint", which is one of eight bonus tracks on the super deluxe edition of the album. A 90-second snippet of "Sky Hooks and Tartan Paint" (courtesy of Ultimate Classic Rock) can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. "The Last Ship" explores the central themes of homecoming and self-discovery, drawing upon Sting's memories of growing up in the shadow of the Swan Hunters Shipyard in Wallsend. His personal reminiscences illuminate universal truths — the complexity of relationships, the passage of time and the importance of family and community — to form an affecting, complex parable for our modern times. The play, in which Sting has been creatively immersed for nearly three years, debuts on Broadway in 2014 and is a collaboration with Tony Award winners Joe Mantello (director; "Wicked", "Other Desert Cities"), John Logan (writer; "Red", "Skyfall") and Brian Yorkey (writer; "Next to Normal"). "The Last Ship" tells the story of the demise of the shipbuilding industry in 1980s Newcastle which had, for so long, shaped and overshadowed the city, its development, and its community. Due on September 24, "The Last Ship" album is produced by Rob Mathes (Sting, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Lou Reed, Carly Simon) and engineered and mixed by Donal Hodgson. It will be available as both a digital and physical release in two configurations — a 12-song version and a 2-disc deluxe version featuring 5 additional tracks. (The 12-song version will also be available on vinyl.) A super deluxe edition, containing 2-discs comprised of 20 tracks within special packaging, will also be sold as a physical product exclusively at Amazon.com. AmazonMP3 will be the exclusive retailer for the 20-track, super deluxe digital edition.

HALESTORM's Cover Of DAFT PUNK's 'Get Lucky' Available For Streaming
Pennsylvanian rockers HALESTORM will release their new EP, "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP", on October 15 via Atlantic. The EP marks the acclaimed hard rock band's first new release since their stunning Grammy Awards triumph earlier this year, as well as the follow-up to 2011's "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP". As with its predecessor, "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP" sees HALESTORM putting their distinctive brand on a strikingly eclectic collection of classic songs, including legendary tracks by JUDAS PRIEST, AC/DC, PAT BENATAR, FLEETWOOD MAC, MARILYN MANSON, and DAFT PUNK. "Like our first 'ReAniMate' EP, the songs included here are a collection of both our favorite songs and songs to challenge ourselves," said HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale. We decided to go more 'bare bones' with this EP, meaning minimal production with live, gritty performances. We recorded this EP the week of the Grammys, so the excitement and debauchery you hear through your speakers is very real. We hope all our fans have as much fun with 'ReAniMate: 2.0' as we did!" "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP" track listing: 01. Dissident Aggressor (originally performed by JUDAS PRIEST) 02. Get Lucky (originally performed by DAFT PUNK) 03. Shoot To Thrill (originally performed by AC/DC) 04. Hell Is For Children (originally performed by PAT BENATAR) 05. Gold Dust Woman (originally performed by FLEETWOOD MAC) 06. 1996 (originally performed by MARILYN MANSON) The "Get Lucky" cover is now available for streaming using the SoundCloud widget below (courtesy of RevolverMag.com). 2011's "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP" contained covers of tracks from SKID ROW, LADY GAGA and GUNS N' ROSES. Singer Lzzy Hale told The Pulse Of Radio that recording other artists' songs helps her own writing. "There's just nothing like singing and playing and picking apart an already proven amazing song," she said. "I think it helps you as a songwriter. I'll write a song and be like, 'Well, is that as good as HEART's 'All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You', and I'll have to be like, 'No, back to the drawing board.'"
NOCTUM: 'Temple Of The Living Dead' Lyric Video Released
The official lyric video for the song "Temple Of The Living Dead" from Swedish rockers NOCTUM can be seen below. The track comes off the band's new album, "Final Sacrifice", which will be released on October 29 via Metal Blade Records. The cover art was painted by Timo Ketola (SUNN O))), ARKTAU EOS) and fits perfectly with the album's raw, natural sound. "Final Sacrifice" is a fictional horror story where each song communicates a portion of the overall narrative. The "final sacrifice" is like a red thread that ties the songs together and is the concept behind the art. "Final Sacrifice" is an analog piece of art in both audio and visual aspects. In the town of Uppsala, Sweden in the year 2009, a band called SÉANCE was formed. Moving at breakneck speed the band formed in September, recorded a two-song demo after adding guitarist Per Wikström to the lineup in October, and by November had changed their name to NOCTUM. Within those three months, the band signed an LP deal with High Roller Records, and a CD deal with Stormspell Records. NOCTUM's debut album, "The Séance", was released in September 2010 via High Roller and in December by Stormspell. The band finally embarked on its first European tour in July of 2011, and followed that up with a new EP, "The Fiddler". By August of 2011, NOCTUM created enough buzz in the underground to gain the attention of Metal Blade Records, which led to a new worldwide record deal. With a new record deal in place with a global label, NOCTUM spent the majority of 2012 refining their sound and writing new songs. Their search for original and interesting material led them to a heavier and darker sound. The progression came very naturally for the band and differs from the typical '70s vibe. The new material successfully evokes a heaviness and emotion one might not expect from a "retro"-sounding band. NOCTUM toured Europe again in 2012, and then welcomed the addition of drummer Fredrik Jansson after Gustaf's departure. Jansson, who spent time in WITCHCRAFT, COUNT RAVEN, and ABRAMIS BRAMA, was added to the lineup in time to record "Final Sacrifice" in April 2013. "Final Sacrifice" track listing: 01. Conflagration 02. Liberty In Death 03. Resurrected In Evil 04. Deadly Connection 05. Void of Emptiness 06. The Revisit 07. A Burning Will 08. Temple Of The Living Dead 09.
