Vengeful
by METALSITES.net @ February 15th, 2009Biography
It's through introspection that the seeds of this musical journey were planted into Jean-Marie Leblanc's mind. The suffocating urge to exorcise his darkened soul lead him to form a band called VENGEFUL. As the first quarter of 2003 materialized into the soon-to-be-titled song "Tempted", Leblanc realized that this side-project had to become a full-fledged Death Metal band. MINDS' ultimate demise left plenty of time for Leblanc to focus on crafting the songs that were to form the band's first full-length, "Karma", but not so fast… Finding a solid line-up of individuals ready to lose themselves into music is a difficult task. Especially in the realm of extreme music. Time = Patience.
After the recording of VENGEFUL's first demo with old buddy Alextreme (NEURAXIS, ATHERETIC, PBR, ex-MINDS) in December '03, Leblanc recruited Etienne Bayard as the band's bass player in March '04. Alextreme soon left to join ATHERETIC, leaving the growler's slot vacant. Bayard then easily filled in using his barbaric IMMOLATION-esque vocals. That period spawned the blueprint to VENGEFUL's sound, “Silence” (off TLA). By February '05, Bayard had left the vocalist slot open for longtime friend Marc-André Grenier to fill in. Coming from more of a thrash metal background, Grenier entered the studio with Leblanc in April '05 to record "Tragedy Lies Ahead...", the band's first official self-released EP. Fellow ex-MINDS guitarist Daniel Pelletier captured this rather pissed-off offering. A copy of that CD reached Samuel Dufour, whom a month later joined the two-piece and started rehearsing the 8 songs that were now ready to be put to disc.
Montreal's rising phenomenal basher Alexandre Pelletier (DESPISED ICON) agreed to lend his talents to 4 of the songs in December '05. Then, by March '06, Jean-Sébastien Gagnon of the utterly brutal ATHERETIC joined the outfit to complete the 4 remaining songs. Having already bonded on TLA, the band hired Dan Pelletier to capture the madness one last time. An advanced promo sampler comprised of newer song "Burial" and old-timer "Tempted" was released in April '06.
Bayard resurfaced just in time to take back his bass duties for the band's first live appearance in August '06. The circle now complete once more with Bayard back in its ranks, VENGEFUL signed with up-and-coming label Disconcert Music in January '07. "Karma" shall hit the record shelves in May '07. The band is now on fire and ready to punish its listeners from the stage...
