Reason

Biography

Reason first formed in 2006 under the name Obsequy. A fusion-influenced progressive metal band from San Diego, CA formed by lead guitarist/vocalist Alex Fidel and drummer Nick Fidel. Current lineup includes NS Chapman Stick/bass player Gary Jibilian (Jibilian/Setar) and drummer Nick Fidel.

Obsequy recorded an EP as a two piece, called Thoughtcrime, with Alex on guitar, vocals, and bass, and Nick on drums. However, Obsequy was joined by Sean Peck, vocalist of a popular power metal band Cage, who sang lead vocals on the song "The Toxic Avenger", which should be on the soundtrack to The Toxic Avenger Part 5 (which is still in pre-production). His contribution was a major bonus. The Thoughtcrime EP was released in 2009, to a limited 150 copy run (plus unlimited digital distribution on iTunes, Amazon, etc.).

"...teenage musicians pay tribute to Chuck Schuldiner and interject some tentative jazzy interludes. These kids would appear to have a bright future ahead of them in the complex death realm..."
-Wisconsin Metal Alliance Forums (wimetal.org)

Plans to record a full-length album called Reason prompted Obsequy to change their name to Reason. It is a concept album about the philosophy of Ayn Rand, mainly the metaphysical and epistemological aspects of her philosophy.
