Gurges

Biography

The idea of the band called Gurges dates way back in 1998. when Johnny Rage and Corpse Ripper also high school friends decided to form a band which will go on the tracks of their rolemodels like Slayer, Metallica, Annihilator and Mercyful Fate. Back in the summer of 1999.in Zadar (Croatia) they came up with a name for their band and decided to call it Herpes. Under that name they played mostly cover songs of their favorite bands. As Rage and Ripper couldn't find any quality bass and solo guitarists the band was put on hold until 2001. when they decided to revive the idea of a progressive trash metal band. Rage and Ripper wrote music for 8 new Herpes songs but as they were lack of good vocals they decided to put their demo as instrumentals and played the songs helped by Mighty Marko on the keyboards. The demo came out on January 2002. and was called LIVE EVIL It consists of 8 tracks and the setlist was:

1. Into the Demon's Lair (intro)
2. Time to die
3. The Haunted House
4. Graveyard Sonata
5. Catch Your victim
6. The Living Dead
7. Down the Nile
8. Hell on the loose

All music was created by Rage/Ripper. But in the year 2002. as the band members had to go to college the band had to split up, but not for long...

Rage and Ripper met again and decided to continue with the band but now with Chuck Carcass on the bass guitar and Mickey Morgue on the solo guitar and the vocals were Rippers job because the style changed to trash/death and his voice was perfectly suitable for it.

As they changed style they decided to change the name also. The new name was Gurges (latin for Abyss, whirlwind...) and the rest is history...

Now the band Gurges is settled in Zadar (Croatia) the hometown of Rage and Ripper as they returned to live there after college. The birthdate of the band is February 2007. when the crew gathered again with the reinforcements Carcass & Morgue.

The main lyrical themes most often are themes of death and killing from horror films. In the songs Rage and Ripper in a way are doing hommage to the trash horrors from the late seventies and early eighties such as "Evil Dead", "Zombie", "The Exorcist" etc. Also the band has influences in black metal, mainly in the lyrical parts, mostly from Mercyful Fate and Venom. But in the musical way you just have to hear their music because is the mixture of different styles of heavy metal., like trash, death, black, classic heavy metal and even blues.

However the guys are just having good fun and creating music that they want and if someone likes it the better if not no harm done.
