Five Finger Death Punch
by METALSITES.net @ June 11th, 2009Biography
Five Finger Death Punch was formed in 2005 by Hungarian born guitarist, Zoltan Bathory.
Bathory established a lineup including Ivan Moody (vocals) - Jeremy Spencer (drums) - Matt Snell (bass) and Caleb Bingham (guitars) - and named the band "Five Finger Death Punch" - as a nod to Hong-Kong Kung-Fu cinema.
The band recorded their self-produced first album (The Way Of The Fist) with sound engineers Stevo "Shotgun" Bruno (Mötley Crüe, Prong), and Mike Sarkysian (Spineshank) in 2006.
The Mixing and Mastering duties were handed to former Machine Head, Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader. After showcasing a couple of songs via Myspace and similar networking sites, the band instantly struck a chord with the underground metal community, and became a word of mouth phenomena.
Topping online charts and playing sold out shows, Five Finger Death Punch begun its rapid rise with their modern day metal. It wasn't long before one of the most powerful managements, "The Firm" (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Staind) took notice, and signed 5FDP to their artist friendly label Firm Music.
They released the already recorded album, The Way of the Fist, on July 31, 2007 via The Firm/EMI. (Caleb Bingham was replaced with Darrell Roberts of WASP in 2007 - and Darrell Roberts was replaced by Jason Hook (formerly of Alice Cooper) in 2009)
Their critically acclaimed debut album The Way Of The Fist broke into the Billboard 200 on its first week of release and had been called the "Cowboys from Hell for this Millennium" by prestigious magazines.
In an unfriendly climate for metal, their hit single, "The Bleeding," went top ten against all odds and ruled the radio waves for an astonishing 8 months. Just as Billboard Magazine predicted, it became the concert anthem of 2007. When the video was voted MTV2's Headbanger's Ball TOP 5 METAL VIDEOS OF THE YEAR, it was just the icing on the cake.
In the following 18 months the band kept a militant touring schedule... staying out on the road with the likes of Korn, Disturbed, Slipknot, and Machine Head -- eventually worked their way up to become a true headlining act selling out venues across America.
During this time, they have torpedoed the rock charts with two more hit singles, and sold over 300,000 records... An impossibly long shot from a brand-new band with a self produced debut record.
Five Finger Death Punch entered 2009 as an International touring act, starting their Europe tour on Metal Hammer Magazine's "Defenders Of The Faith" festival with Lamb Of God and Dimmu Borgir. Finally, the European fans could see why Metal Edge calls them "the sound of violent exhilaration, giving contemporary metal a belligerent shove in an exciting direction."
5FDP is scheduled to return to the studio in April of 09' and begin working on their follow up record.
