August 2005, Port Elizabeth (South Africa) At this time, everyone had their own bands they were playing in, but they all felt that they needed to express themselves in a different way. Gunston met Engelbrecht out at a local pub & through college. They both were into the same old school bands and decided, after a lot of persuasion by Engelbrecht, to get together and have a jam. Day 1 & 2 was just old school riffs, but by day 3 they had already written the music for Forbidden. In every band you need more then just guitarists, so we kept our eyes open for a drummer & bassist. So Gunston called on long time friend Basson to listen to the new material. He liked what he heard and was immediately brought on board as the drummer. This soon became the core of what would become CHROMIUM.
Local guitarist & friend, Stylez, was asked to join as our bassist. He agreed and CHROMIUM was finally ready to hit the stage.
16 December 2005, Chromium perform their first showcase at ROCK YOUR MIND 5: The Chromium Band Launch for a first show they did well with over 220 people. They carried on to perform just over 8 shows, sharing the stage with acts such as Forever Will Burn at Witchfest Cape Town 2006 & Ashton Nyte.
Unfortunately the fun came to a halt for a while as decided on a line-up change. Stylez was asked to leave the band, mainly because they couldnt get on with him as well as in the beginning; the click was gone. Adrian was asked to move onto Bass Guitar & Backing Vocalist.
Chromiums Demo tracks were uploaded onto many national and international website. They received high rankings on download charts, and awards such as Track of The Day and Track of The Week on garageband.com.
July 2006, Chromium get signed by label, ALTER EGO! This is a turning point in the life of a band because to have the backing of a label really helps obtain higher quality gigs.
The album Intra Spectre was recorded by Gunston at his home studio, basically in a bed room! It took over 150 hours to record & well over 5months to finish mixing & mastering. The aim of the Album was to make a mark in the South African music industry, as Gunston feels that there is a lacking of good quality recordings & mixes.
The stereo spectrum of this album is as if you were watching the band live. Gunston recorded the guitars on the Left & Engelbrecht recorded the guitars on the right.
August 2006, Gunston relocates to Johannesburg. Leaving everything behind in Port Elizabeth, relying and hoping his band members will do the same. Auditions for a new drummer start. In this time they also received an Endorsement from Hughes & Kettnar, one of the best amplification brands of all time.
